Ahmedabad City Guide - From walled city Ahmedabad, or 'Manchester of the East', is now turning into a world city at a faster rate. Located on the banks of River Sabarmati, the city was once the capital of Gujarat - the capital was shifted to Gandhinagar in 1970 - yet it remains the most important city in the region and has established itself as the home of a booming textile industry.
