According to latest Census of India, the Population of Orissa state is 4.19 Crore. The state has witnessed a descent growth of Population in the last 10 years. In 2001 Census, its population was estimated to be 3.68 Crore, thus it has witnessed a growth of 13.97 percent in its Population in this decade. Further it has shown increase in its literacy rate from 63.08 in 2001 to 73.45 in 2011. Better education facilities by Government of Orissa have proved vital for this increase in literacy rate. Total Number of Male Literates in the state stands at 15,326,036 and female at 11,786,340. Overall Population statistics provided by the census of India shows an increase in total population of Orissa. The eastern state of India has also witnessed a growth in sex ratio, literacy ratio and density per sq. kilometer.

Sex Ratio of Orissa - According to latest census of 2011, Sex Ratio in the state has increased to 978 females per 1000 males. This has increased marginally as compared to previous figures of 972 females per 1000 males in 2001 census.

Literacy Rate in Orissa - Going by the figures provided by latest Census of India 2011, Orissa Literacy rate has improved by 10% in this decade. Orissa Government has taken significant measures to improve quality of education in the state. Better education facilities are offered to the people especially in the remote cities and towns of Orissa.

Population Density in Orissa - Orissa with 269 per sq. km. density of Population is below the national average of 382 per sq. km. This was previously recorded at 236 per sq. km. in the last census of 2001.
