Entertainment in Ahmedabad

C.G. Road in Ahmedabad

Entertainment & Recreation in Ahmedabad - Not long ago, the only recreation was watching the latest Bollywood film at the City Gold Multiplex on Ashram Road, and catching up at the Cinemasala or McDonald's restaurants in the multiplex and head home.

But now, entertainment is being redefined. C.G. Road houses most of the noteworthy shopping malls like Circle-P, Levi's, Nike and Bodyline. Stretching over roughly 3 km, C.G. Road dazzles at night. People often come here just for a walk on a Saturday or Sunday evening. Popular food chains and cafes like Barista, Café Coffee Day, Smokin' Joe's, Pizza Hut, Domino's and Copper Chimney are the popular haunts here.

In the last one year, however, the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar (S.G.) Highway with its clubs, multiplexes and shopping malls is all set to take on C.G. Road. It has a cosmopolitan feel as Ahmedabad increasing expat population as well as multinational immigrants is gradually heading to the west due to congestion in the main city. A new Ahmedabad town is being planned in this zone with an investment of Rs. 1,000 crore. The S.G. Highway set along the National Highway 8 has therefore become home to quality entertainment and accommodates all the necessities of urban convenience. Multiplexes like Fun Republic and Wide Angle, family shopping malls like Big Bazaar that has readymade garments to green groceries, all under one roof, and clubs like the Rajpath Club and Karnavati Club are big attractions. The multiplex Fun Republic, located on Satellite Road off the S.G. Highway, houses a bowling alley, a book shop, an audio-video parlour, a multi-cuisine restaurant called Chutneez as well as outlets of several city restaurants, and many clothing and jewellery stores including brands like Nike.

Larries (makeshift stalls) serving sevpuris, pao bhajis, gol gappas, sandwiches, Chinese food and kulfis do brisk business. White Law Garden is a fabulous storehouse of traditional Kutchch embroidery and handicrafts; it also has the well-known shopping malls - Pantaloons, Westside and niche stores like Hakoba, famous for its chikan embroidery, dress materials and Radhika, and exclusive store for women.
