Government of Punjab has also shown keen interest in developing new business ventures in Amritsar. We have listed below famous business areas in Amritsar.

Hall Gate/Hall Bazaar: In earlier times the city was forced to live and work behind fortifications. Despite changed circumstances a lot of commercial and administrative activity still continues to be held there. The municipal corporations, main branches of some of the banks, etc are here. The narrow lanes in this area are also the centre for much of the wholesale trade in spices and other commodities.

The Mall/Court Road: The regal era, marked by both Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the British, brought the area outside the old city area into focus. The quarter today bound by The Mall, Court Road, Lawrence Road and Albert Road is where the city set up the administrative structures. The district offices, courts, customs & excise and income tax offices, etc are all centred here. The airlines', post and telegraph, too, are located here. During the Raj this was the civil lines and the elite built their mansions here in spacious compounds lined along broad avenues. Many of these residences have now given way to commercial complexes and shopping malls adding more color and activity.

Ranjit Avenue District Centre: This is where much of the planned future development lies. Modern office and commercial complexes interspersed by wide parks and parking lots have been coming up in recent years. Many government, quasi government and private commercial establishments have already come here. More are ready to tenant the buildings as soon as they are completed.
