Longest National Highway in India

India has numerous national highways that have bridged the gap from East to West and North To South. These highways are not only used for travelers but mostly for commercial import and export purposes. All the credit for their maintenance goes to the National Highway Authority of India and Central Works Public department who are whole-heartedly keeping the communication smooth.

In 2014, the total length of national highways were calculated to be approximately 142,126kms, which increased to 151, 019 kms as marked on March 2021. Right now, these national highways are under the surveillance of Mr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu(IAS), the chairman of NHAI since 2019.

Here is a list of the Longest highways in India which has made on-road commute much easier.

1. National Highway 44 (3745 kms)

NH44 tops the list when the topic of the lengthiest highway arises. It connects the northern and southern extremes of the country (Srinagar and Kanyakumari respectively) and is well maintained. It also touches 11 states which incorporate 30 major cities. NH 44 is a collaboration of seven different national highways which makes it even more imminent. Not to forget, it is one of the busiest and explorers chose this path as it satiates their long drive experience.

2. National Highway 27 (3507 kms)

This highway is a connector of northeast India to the Western belts and it touches 7 states. The travel enthusiasts could also visit no less than 47 cities from Porbandar (Gujarat) in the West to Silchar (Assam) in the East. The most intriguing fact about the NH 27 is that one can see the changes in culture and ethnicity as one goes through each of the states. NH27 also supports the economic spine of the country since it is the chosen path for numerous commercial vehicles.

3. National Highway 48 (2807 km)

This is another highway that connects the north with the south. It has deemed its popularity for being one of the most well-maintained roads that run from Delhi to Chennai. The former name was NH8 which later changed to become NH27 in 2010. It connects some prominent states like Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. One can also visit major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Ajmer.

4. National Highway 52 (2317 kms)

NH52 emerges from the junction of NH66 at Karnataka. It starts from the Arbail Ghat and ends at Sangrur of Punjab. It connects important states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab. Travel enthusiasts can also explore offbeat cities like Shirpur, Solapur, Dhule Jhalawar and Hisar.

5. National Highway 30 (1984 km)

If you want to go trekking, hitting this road would be a viable option since it originated from the mountainous ranges of Sitarganj. Starting from Uttarakhand, it stretches till Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, which is another sparkling city one could ever come across. But amidst these two points, the road passes through numerous offbeat spots in UP and Chhattisgarh. This highway can also be deemed as a life support system for the states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Some of the major cities that are incorporated into this path are Allahabad, Jabalpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Pilibhit and Raipur.

National Highways have enhanced communication in ways more than one and road trips have become more viable. Commercial vehicles can now reach faster and they also provide a seamless experience for travelers.
