National Doctors Day 2023

National Doctors Day is celebrated on the 1st of July every year. The date was finalized to honor the birth and death anniversary of one of the greatest physicians and the renowned second minister of West Bengal, respected Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. The main motive of finalizing this day is to honor with gratitude the doctors who have tirelessly shown their dedication to treating all the patients who go to them. Doctor’s Day is not just celebrated in India but in various countries across the globe. Here, the catch is that it is celebrated on different dates in different countries.

History

The first-ever National Doctor’s Day was celebrated in 1991. Some of the institutions where he role-played and was instrumental are the Chittaranjan Suva Sadhan, Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, and such. Not only that but he was also known as the very first medical consultant in the subcontinent region of India. Furthermore, his dedication and selfless work led him to win the renowned award the Bharat Ratna on the 4th of February 1961.

Significance

The main significance of this day is to acknowledge and glorify the roles of doctors that they have been playing over the years by saving hundreds and thousands of lives. Doctors inevitably have a very important role in society if it weren’t for them, the motto of people to approach a healthy lifestyle would not have been successful to an acceptable extent.

These doctors are known to have an appreciable amount of knowledge when it comes to medical science and does their best in treating the respectful patient that comes to them with their medical condition and diagnosis. These doctors leave no stone unturned to expand the life of their patients.

About Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy

Respected Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born in 1882 in the Patna Bengal Presidency, British India. He pursued and completed his graduation in mathematics after which he went on to pursue medicine at the University of Calicut. To pursue higher education in this very field of medicine, he joined the well renowned St. Bartholomew’s Hospital hat is located in London. However, due to his Asian roots, he was denied admission to the institution. Still, he did not lose hope and after 30 rejections, his application was accepted.

National Doctor’s Day can be celebrated by showing gratitude to both our doctors as well as the doctors of the world who have made tons of sacrifices just so that we can lead a happy and healthy life. Specifically, India has shown various signs of improvement in its medical field and is still striving hard to advance its skills. Another way of observing this day is by sending out cards or flowers or sometimes even both, to the doctors to show that you are grateful to them.
