Tulsidas Jayanti 2023

Tulsidas Jayanti is the commemoration of Tulsidas’ birthday which arrives on the 7th day or Saptami of Shukla Paksha in the month of Sawan. Tulsidas took birth in the 16th century and he was one of the leading poets of the 16th century. He was brought into life in a small village named Rajapur in Uttar Pradesh in the family of Aatmaram Dubey and Hulsi Dubey.

Tulsidas Jayanti is celebrated in order to pay respect to Tulsidas on his birthday which comes on the 7th day of the Shukla Paksha in Sawan month as per the Hindu calendar. According to these figures, in 2023, Tulsidas Jayanti will be celebrated on the 23rd of August 2023 on Wednesday. 

How is Tulsidas Jayanti Celebrated?

Tulsidas Jayanti is marked by the people of India and religious gurus in the remembrance of the great poet of Hindi literature, Goswami Tulsidas. The devotees of Lord Rama also have a respectful feeling for poet Tulsidas as he composed Ramcharitmanas, the biggest book of Hindi literature. On the occasion of the Tulsidas Jayanti, the devotees of Lord Rama pay respect to Lord Rama by reading Ramcharitmanas at temples and worshiping Lord Rama. This is the biggest day for the religious gurus also who worship Lord Hanuman, the biggest devotee of Lord Rama while reciting Ramcharitmanas and his other compositions. Various public, private and social groups conduct events like Ramlila in the many parts of India on this auspicious day. 

Why is Tulsidas Jayanti Celebrated?

Tulsidas was a great poet and saint who tried to eliminate the unfair behaviors in society through his compositions. He often talked about the detrimental impacts of societal topics that were widespread in Indian society. He used to promote real devotion, the safety of brahmins, and reverence for old traditions through his works. His ambition was to build a Ram Rajya in the country, where everyone might live in harmony and without fear of injustice. Many wicked individuals became his enemies as a result of this, and they sought to destroy all of his efforts. 

Significance of Tulsidas Jayanti 

Tulsidas’ childhood was not so good and he faced a lot of poverty. Tulsidas wrote the Ramcharitmanas and thus became immortal in this universe. His composition Ramcharitmanas explains in detail the different facets of Lord Rama’s existence and it’s a timeless lyrical masterpiece that is widely regarded as one of the finest works of global literature.

Apart from Ramcharitmanas, he composed 12 other books like Hanuman Chalisa, Kavitavali, Geetawali, Janaki Mangal, Vinay Patrika, and Barve Ramayan. He used the local and simple language in all of his books in order to reach his work to the common man. He wrote Dohavali comprises 573 different Doha and Sortha which explains issues such as diplomacy, political acumen, ethics, and life’s objective. Katvali is likewise a verse-based content that tells the narrative of Lord Rama’s existence. It is organized into seven Kaands or volumes, just as in the Ramcharitmanas, and many of the incidents are unique to this work.

Legend of Tulsidas Jayanti

It is regarded that it requires multiple lives to accomplish the honor that Tulsidas was successful in achieving in his lifetime. His admirers and trainees revered and idolized him.

He met Ratnavali as his wife later in life and admired his wife very much and one day he was forced to listen to nasty comments from her, who said, “If Tulsidas had been even half as passionate to Deity as he was to her body of heart and mind, he would have been liberated from his misery.” Tulsidas marked those words of his wife and moved on leaving behind his wife and choosing to give up his life to the adoration of Lord Rama. Guru Baba Narharidas also imparted knowledge to him. 

There are many shocking and interesting legends about Tulsidas, one of them is that it is believed that when he was born he did not cry but he uttered the name of Lord Rama. He was one of the biggest poets and composers of this world and even he was worshiped because of his composition Ramcharitmanas. 

Some Interesting Facts about Tulsidas and Tulsidas Jayanti

It is said that Tulsidas stayed in his mother’s stomach for 12 months during his birth and he was born with 32 teeth. At that moment, he seemed to be a 5 years old boy at the time of his birth. Tulsidas is also called Rambola because he recited the name of Lord Rama at the time of his birth. There is no religious document about the birth year of Tulsidas, some say he was born in 1532 whereas some claim he took birth in 1589. Tulsidas claimed through his composition ‘Bhaktiras Bodhni’ that he has seen Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman. He mentioned that he saw Lord Hanumanji in Varanasi where there is a Sankat Mochan Temple presently. It is said that Hanumanji aided Tulsidas in compositing Ramcharitramanas. Tulsidas mentioned that he saw Lord Rama two times while residing on the Raj Ghat of Chitrakoot. Tulsidas has also performed various miracle activities like he cured many serious diseases and also survived people even after death. The great ruler of the Mughal kingdom, Akbar also used to appreciate the miracle work and intelligence of Tulsidas. It is said that both were very close friends at that time. Tulsidas left his body at the Assavi Ghat of Varanasi in the Savan month.
