Maharishi Valmiki is a great Sanskrit poet who has a big identity in Sanskrit literature, he is credited for writing the Hindu religious document the Ramayana. There is no historic document of when the Ramayana was written but it is believed that it was published around the 5th century to 1st century BCE. The Ramayana’s content comprises more than 4 lakh words. Valmiki was not a poet initially but he used to rob and kill people in the Jungle. But when he met Narad Muni then he changed the path of his life and became a devotee of Lord Rama.

Valmiki Jayanti is observed on the anniversary of Valmik’s birth, however, the precise day of his birth is unknown. According to Hindu traditions, he was born on the full moon day of the Ashwin month in the Hindu calendar. After a lot of meditation and practice, he completely transformed himself and then he was ordered to write Ramayan, one of the great Hindu texts.

In India, especially in the North Indian state, Valmiki Jayanti has a special significance among the people and is celebrated with full heart and soul. Maharishi Valmiki transformed his life from a robber (Daku) to a great sage and poet. This transformation earned him so much respect and his name is still going from generation to generation. Legend of Valmiki Jayanti
Valmiki was a robber who lived in a Bheel community but he did not belong to that community. He was actually a brahmin and his father was Precheta. It is said that Valmiki was stolen in his childhood.
Valmiki was a brilliant sage and poet who spoke multiple languages, and he wrote the Sanskrit Ramayana. He was known as Adi Kavi because he authored the first Mahakavya in Sanskrit. Adi means first and Kavi means poet, therefore he was the first poet on the planet.
Valmiki’s narrative is unique in that he was abducted as a kid and raised by a family of bandits in the jungle. For a livelihood, they used to plunder everyone who passed through those forests. Valmiki, whose actual name was Ratnakar, was also implicated in the robbery. As a result, he acquired the name Daku Ratnakar and continued his thievery and criminal actions. He captured Narad Muni one day, and Narad Muni became his hostage. Then Narad Muni asked Ratnakar how many members of his family would share his terrible Karma. When he returned to ask their relatives and friends how many of them shared the terrible karma with him, they all ignored him and denied it. Then he understood what had happened and decided to take a step back and seek advice from Narad Muni. He began his spiritual practice by saying the name of Rama, as taught by Narad Muni. While meditating, he began saying ‘Mara’ instead of ‘Rama’, resulting in an ant mountain forming around him. As a result, he was given the name “Valmiki,” which means “anthills,”. This is the life-changing legend of Maharishi Valmiki.
