Areas in Bhubaneswar - Over the years, the downtown in Bhubaneswar has split into many sections, each specific to individual or a group of localities. Check out list of main areas in Bhubaneswar city.

Janpath: Either downtown is still the prime centre of the city. Though, its extent has expanded to include adjoining areas of Rajpath, Shahid Nagar, Karavel Nagar, Ashok Nagar, etc. It is also close to the main gateways, railway and bus station and airport. The city had also steered its earlier growth, like location of hotels and shopping outlets. The state's secretariat, the principal administrative hub, is also located here. This is the area which hardly ever goes to sleep.

Nayapalli: This was an attempt by the elite to get out into more spacious and peaceful environs. And saw the location of many corporate and government offices, upmarket hotels, like Mayfair Lagoon, Trident Hilton, Swosti Plaza, etc., closely followed by upmarket housing. Exquisite shopping and dining filled in the gaps.

The Old City: Close to Janpath and across the railway lines is the old city, still brimming with activity from very early in the morning. To a great extent this is because of the location of all the important temples in the area. The vicinity of the temples is always good to spend time or look for things you may need suddenly and urgently.

Chandrashekharpur: This is where the elite of the elite and all the brains have started to concentrate in Bhubaneswar. Lying beyond Nayapalli, it has attracted many institutions of higher education, like IT and higher management institutes, a number of good hospitals, like Kalinga and Hemlata Cancer hospitals, and Infosys complex. Dining out and shopping support has, naturally, added colour to the area.
