Population of Surat - The modern city of Surat is the second largest city in the state with a majority of rich population families living here. Famous all over the world for its diamond and textile business, Surat is the second largest city in the state after Ahmedabad. Surat is regarded as 4th fastest developing cities of India with a bustling metropolitan area home to over 7.5 million people (1). Its population has increased from 46,42,829 in 2011 to 7,567,538 in 2021. According to last Census of India (2011), Surat has recorded a growth of 63.3% in its population from 2001 to 2011. The city plays a key role in economic development of the nation with its important contribution towards national GDP. The city also serves as an administrative capital of the Surat district.

Current Population of Surat
According to recent estimates (2), the current population of Surat in 2021 is 7,567,538 (7.5 million), an increase of over 3 lakh people from last year (2020) figure of 7,228,452 (7.2 million). Population of Surat has been increasing with an annual growth rate of over 6.3%. Each year, the city adds around 3 lakh people to its growing population. Surat has been choosen as a Smart city under Smart city Mission which was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25 June, 2015.
