Serving as the hub of Visakhapatnam district, the population figures of Vizag makes it fourth largest city in South India. According to data released by last Census of India held in 2011, Visakhapatnam had a population of 1,728,128. This further includes 873,599 as males and females were 854,529.

This authority covers a total area of 7,328.86 km2 (2,829.69 sq mi) in and around largest city of Andhra Pradesh. Total Population of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region is 60 lakhs as of 2018. VMRDA was setup for planning, supervision and promoting of overall growth of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region.
