Born to Mr Saikhom Kriti Meitei and Mrs Saikhom Ongbi Tombi Leima, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is the first Indian Woman who has won a gold medal in the Common Wealth Games 2022 in weightlifting. She is an Indian Weightlifter. She was born in Nongpok Kakching, Manipur. This popular weightlifter is a follower of Sanamahism and worships the Hindu deities.
She was 11 years old when she won her first gold medal in a local weightlifting competition. She used to compete in 48 and 49 kg categories. She went to World and Asian Junior Championships to compete and win medals.She used to train herself at Manipur Sports Academy.

She had the strength and capability of lifting heavy weights from the early age of 12 years. Even at that small age, she used to lift heavy stacks of firewood that even her brothers could not do.Furthermore, she acquired a gold medal as her first biggest victory at International Youth Championship when she was 17.
One of her biggest achievements for which she is popular was in 2017 when she won a gold medal at World Weightlifting Championships, which was held in Anaheim, California.

Career of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu
Chanu Saikhom Mirabai has made many world records with her weightlifting. Also, she has won many medals in various games. The first medal she won was a silver medal in the Glasgow edition of the commonwealth games. Then, she qualified for Rio Olympics 2016 but failed to complete it.
Then at the 2017 World weightlifting Championship, with 194 kg in total weight, she made a record held in Anaheim, California, United States. This made her win a gold medal in the 48 kg weightlifting category.
People remember her best performance in the 2018 Common Wealth Games, where she lifted a total weight of 196 Kg and won a gold medal. Again, by making a record of 203 kg, Chanu Saikhom Mirabai won a gold medal in the 2020 National Weightlifting Championships.
She has also won the bronze medal at the 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships, which were held in Tashkent. Here also, she made a world record of 205 kg in total.
She is the only Indian weightlifter qualified for the 2020 summer Olympics. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she became the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal. Once again, Saikhom Mirabai set a world record of 115 kg in clean and jerk lifting.
Recently, she won a gold medal in the 2022 Birmingham Common Wealth Games.She has also faced many failures in her weightlifting career. In the 2019 Asian weightlifting Championship, she could not make the bronze medal in the 49 kg category or make it to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

- She was honored with the national awards in 2018. She was honoured with Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, considered the highest sporting honour in India, and the Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award.

- Mirabai Chanu is one of the finest and strongest contenders in weightlifting sports. She is one of India's brightest prospects for a medal, and also, she has again made India proud by getting the first Gold medal in the 2022 Common Wealth game at Birmingham, England. She booked this victory with a total lift of 201 Kg comprises 88 kg snatch and 113 kg clean and jerk
- Not only was her name in sports, but now many films about her life are also directed. Based on the life of Chanu Saikhom Mirabai, a Shumang Leela-based movie was released on 19th September 2021. The movie's title is "Mei Lklaba Thamoi", and Shougrakpam Hemata directs it.
- There is also an announcement of a Biographical Manipuri film on Chanu Saikhom Mirabai by Senti Film. The movie director will be OC Meira, and Manaobi MM will do the screenplay.
